Lahugala Kitulana National Park

Lahugala Kitulana  is one of the  national parks in Sri Lanka. Despite its land area, the park is an important habitat for Sri Lankan elephants  and endemic birds. This  national park contains the reservoirs of Lahugala, Kitulana and Sengamuwa and they are ultimately flows  to Heda Oya river. Originally it was designated as a wildlife sanctuary.  Then the protected area was upgraded to a national park.  Lahugala Kitulana is situated 318 km east of Colombo. One of the LTTE leaders   terrorist hideout  was located in this  Kitulana national park and  lot of  terrorists activities were going on   during the civil war  and nobody visited this area.  Now this National park is open for public.
