Botanical Garden Peradeniya – Royal Botanical Garden at Peradeniya was established by British Colonial rulers. This attractive botanical garden exclusively for Kandyan rulers during the ancient times. It covers 60 hectares and bounded on three sides by the Mahaweli River which is the longest river in Sri Lanka. In the spice garden near the entrance, you can see nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves etc. Nearby, the snake creeper is also worth a look. You can view the giant bamboo and assam rubber trees, and also take a closer look at the memorial trees, planted by the famous VVIPs. Look at the trees’ different growth rates with the historical legacy of those who planted them.
