Vidyajothi Dr. A.N.S. Kulasinghe

 

He deserves the  honour of the citizens of  this country.  On the  supervision of  him,  he has carried out   lot of  large scale as well as small scale construction projects.

 

This noble personality   was the pioneer of  Sri Lanka National Engineering  Research and Development Center ( NERD-C) and  he has been with this institute and  had carried out   special  development work  for the benefit of this country.

 

Further  holding higher positions  in   State  Engineering Corporation (SEC ) Central  Consulting Bureau  for  Engineering  activities  (C.E.C.B.), Sri Lanka Cement Corporation,  Mahaweli development Authority,  National Science Council, Congress for advancement  of science Research Committee  and Sri  Lanka Tyre Corporation, Lanka Steel corporation, Lowland  Reclamation Board,  State Hardware Corporation and  had rendered a yeoman service.

 

In addition  he contributed immensely in the  international arena   and waked  up the international community and    brought fame to  our country.

 

He was introduced  by the   name of  “Concrete Kulasinghe”   and further he   had become an international personality.

 

He always  told others  ” not to think in the same way”   and ” always  carry out challenging tasks. “

 

Published by  the Educational  Publishing Department  in the year 2008  first edition  for Grade 8 Sinhalese language and literature  2nd Part  Text book  Author Professor  Mrs.D.M.Wickramsinghe  with the  Erudite Board,   he was introduced as  ” wonderful man ”  and  included a  valuable lesson.  We must be grateful to the educational Publishing department  for this.  There is a preface written by Arthur C  Clerk   world famous  Astronomist  about  Kulasinghe  is also included in this text book.

Specialty in him  is  he has shown creative  and innovative  skills not only in  Civil Engineering  works but also in  all  engineering fields.  From them  following  are  significant contributions;

 

In the field of  Water Management and  Irrigation Engineering Science

 

Contributed to  the construction of giant  reservoirs  such as Victoria, Randenigala, Rantambe, Kothmale and Maduru Oya  and  electricity  producing power houses   and   creations such as Polgolla dam.

 

In the field of  Electricity and Power  Engineering Science

 

Pioneer in the  construction of Norton bridge  Power House

 

In the filed of Engineering Science of  Regenerative  Power Management

 

Producing  bio gas, compost  chemical  solid  manure and liquid manure  using waste garbage.  Influencing people to  use them and   implementing a method to  protect the environment.

 

In the filed of Mechanical Engineering Science.

 

Creation of Motor vehicle Engine using  coconut oil

 

Fuel combustion  100%  dividing  fuel  to  small ancillaries  and  discovering the  method to  enter them into Cylinder  chamber  and  creating the relevant methodology  fixing it externally  to the engine  reducing the cost for fuel.

 

In the field of Agricultural Engineering Field

 

Popularizing  cinnamon  cultivation,  introducing new method of producing  cinnamon oil  and  introducing  an  equipment to  remove  cinnamon shale and  developing the industry.

 

In the field of  roads and  Bridges  construction

 

Concreting the  road leading  to Colombo harbour

Introducing  concrete Sleepers to  railway lines

 

We can introduce Mr.Kulasinghe as a  splendid personality  who  created wonderful  creations.

 

He has obtained Patents  for such creations.

 

Further he  valued the Sri Lanka identity. His personal   resources and time  spent for  opening and maintaining the  research institute  at  village  Ja-ela Udamnmita and   the researches were  conducted   and this research institute  giving  services even  today and tomorrow  and for the benefit of the future generations.
