Pros & Cons of physiological and behavioral biometrics on its application
Advantages
Biometrics provide a convenient and increased security and reduce or minimize fraud. Problems such as lost Identity cards or forgotten passwords are eliminated with the system and reduce password and attributed administration costs. Biometrics replaces hard to remember passwords which may be stolen, shared or observed. Another advantage is biometrics integrate a wide range of biometric solutions and technologies, customer applications and databases into a robust and scalable control solution for facility and network access. With biometric technology it is possible to know who did, what , where and when and helpful to curb terrorism. Biometric offers cost savings in areas such as loss , prevention or time and attendance. Biometrics can link an individual to a transaction or event.
Disadvantages
The finger print of those people who are working in the chemical industry are frequently affected and for that reason such companies should not use the finger print mode for authentication. With regard to voice recognition, It is with the age the voice of a person differs and when person has a cold or flue or throat infection the voice changes and there are too much noise in the environment this system will not be able to identify accurately. A person’s voice can be easily recorded and used for unauthorized PC or network. As such this system is not operational all the time.
In fingerprints it can make mistakes with the dryness or dirty of the finger’s skin, as well as with the age and this method is not appropriate with children, because the size of their fingerprint changes quickly.
Signature verification is designed to verify subjects based on the traits of their unique nature. As a result, individuals who do not sign their names in a consistent manner may have difficulty enrolling and verifying in verification.
In retina scanning in people who are affected with diabetes the eyes get affected and as a result there are differences and difficult for correct authentication. Retinal Scanning has the stigma of consumer’s thinking it is potentially harmful to the eye. This method is not user friendly and time consuming.
In hand geometry It is not valid for arthritic person, since they cannot put the hand on the scanner properly and it does not recognize living tissues. Also scanning the same position and this is not hygienic method.
Facial recognition is time consuming and lot of memory for the data to be stored.
In general all Biometric methods are considered very expensive.
System Manager’s views
In today’s world of heightened sensitivity to security, organizations finds itself at the front line of this conflict necessary to provide security to its customers and staff in their entire stay will be peaceful and problem free. To achieve this goal, companies deploy a very structured biometrics. The system revolves around a core biometric verification system which, when deployed in any place provides best in class security.
Point of Views of Users
General public are being conditioned to give up their privacy and independence in exchange for the “safety”. Some innocent men, women and children have already been misused their faces with scanning cameras. In the past only criminals were fingerprinted but it is argued in the near future people will have to biometrically scan their body parts to get driving license, to get a job to have a bank account etc etc. It is said that with biometrics technology world is heading towards dictatorship.
