Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage – Sri Lanka Wildlife department initiated the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage in 1975 and situated near the Kegalla town. It is 24 acres in extent and it has the recorded maximum number of elephants in captivity in the world. This facility attracts both local as well as foreign visitors. Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage has become one of the biggest orphanages in the world and at present it is well known all over the world. Your visit to this orphanage will give you the opportunity to enjoy the sight of elephants interacting together. Bathing hours of elephants are from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. daily and they walk around 400 meters to the lake Maha Oya for this purpose. Subsequent to the bathing hours feeding hour at the main center of the orphanage. Baby elephants are bottle fed. Tourists can have a chance of bottle feeding milk to the baby elephants.
