Personal Development Plan

Personal Development Planning (PDP) is a continuous development process that enables people to make the best use of their skills  and abilities to  advance both the individual’s plans and the strategic goals of the organization. I have created my Personal development plan setting personal, career goals, objectives and self development.  It includes my career and lifestyle analyzing opportunities and risks.   My Personal development plan   includes a portfolio giving evidence of skills.

My Vision

“I will become a leader in my organization, serving to transform it into a   model organization    while at the same time being the best human being that  I can be.”

Competitive environment in business

Wars, natural disasters and shortage of skilled people are also effect competitive environment. As a result of completive environment of business activities Companies have to charge more as continually raising expenses and overhead costs. Our direct competitors provide similar services and we have to compete with them.  Differentiating our services in a competitive environment entails developing an element of our business that competitors will not be able to imitate.  Rapidly growing technology innovation also affects the competitive environment affecting  those who do not adapt.  One example is the internet has enabled some companies to offer online services through their websites which some customers find more convenient than the other options available.  Organizations that do not adapt to this new competitive environment might be at a disadvantage.

Personal and Professional Development

Personal and Professional Development is not just for the higher managers.  It is an important process for anyone who wants to grow, move up the ladder or be able to effectively complete new assignments as they arise.  In my Personal Development Program,  it is to focus on my vision, what  I want or my objectives, goals or target, when I will reach  or achieve   the change  and how I make  to become  very best I can be.

 Professional skills

Life is making a series of choices.  In the case of personal development, I know that choices shape who I am and what I represent to the world.  It is a matter of assessing my situation; acknowledge that improvement   and commitment are necessary to make the change. There are many tools that can be used on individual development and personal growth. Some  of the most effective tools   are creating a library of reference materials and books,  participating in personal development seminars  and  put into practice my  knowledge and skills  at  my work  place. There are many mentors to turn for guidance. However, the most important thing involves is making a choice to become my very best.  For that purpose, I have to look at myself for my strengths and weakness. I have to challenge my self to improve on weaknesses while I have to  further enhance my strengths. Another vital step is to   commitment to improve, develop and growth. It means that I need to have a vision, mission, a plan together with the confidence and the drive.

Skills need to effective management and Leadership

In order to become a leader, I must have leadership qualities such as planning, organizing, leading and coordination activities.

Controlling and coordinating

This is happening with the organizations systems processes and structures to reach goals and objectives.  This includes ongoing collection of feedback and monitoring and adjustment of systems, processes, structures and procedures accordingly.  It includes financial controls, processes and procedures, performance management and measures to avoid risks. Management is getting the work done by others.  Another perspective is quite apart from the traditional view,  job of management is to support employees’ efforts to be fully productive members and good citizens of the community. The term management probably means the group of executives and other managers who are primarily responsible for making decision in the company or organization

Preferred Leaning Style

Every time I start a new day I am giving myself a new opening for experience and learning. Each day that I spend awake is a day unique unlike any other day that has ever been lived or will be lived again. There is nothing which, once learned, serves no purpose,  for even if its only use is repeating it , there is always the chance that  I am planting a seed in someone’s mind. When I leave my home  I will not walk forward without casting a backwards glance. A love of knowledge has been sown and now it can only flourish.

Professional goals and Objective  Short term

1My knowledge

It is to my surprise that the way learning grows from itself like a plant whose cutting you can put into water so that it will root.  I learn about trees were planted and what zoning rules were causing of them to be preserved while others were cut down. Knowledge is also like that when you get a little bit of it and it grows on its own accord.

 My Skills

It is obvious leaders’ duty is to solve problems and make decisions. When I encounter a new problem, every problem is unique, and  earlier solution is not fit for the present problem. Leader should have an organized approach to problem solving and decision making.  After practice,  they will become second  nature to us. Even though   we can deepen and enrich them to suit our own needs and nature. It might be more my nature to view a problem as an opportunity  therefore, I  might substitute opportunity for a problem.

Personal Goals and Objectives

All spiritual teachers tell us to be move loving with ourselves and others. Through loving ourselves and others, gratefulness and living a simple life, we can be happy. With every smile a small senses of joy is activated in our mind and when we focus on this joy, it will grow and expand on its own accord.  This is how I can be happy in a nutshell.  I am grateful for everything that has happen to me.   I am loving myself and  everyone  I encounter.  I continually focus on joy that  I can evoke with a simple smile.

Personal skills required

To be an effective leader need to be good at task execution, managing people and making a profit. My primary objective is to get work done efficiently by others. Leadership is promoting new directions and management is efficient task execution.  Best use of all resources at their disposal in relation to specific set of goals. To be an efficient leader, it is essential to have skills in task execution, commercial insight and skills of managing  people. To execute complex tasks, leader projects and run an efficient operation to be able to plan an organized and monitored performance.  It is important to have strong results and to focus to be sense of urgency and has pursuance to get things done under   pressures.  This includes the resilience to bounce back following setbacks and be a person who is not easily defeated. Leaders must use their planning skills to prioritize in combination an organization allocating at their disposal wisely. Leader must have the integrity to foster trust and the emotional intelligence to deal with various people successfully.  Leader must be good at empowering, coaching, motivation and developing people.

Professional skills required

Effective professional skills are now the currency of success. It is necessary for the leaders who have developed leadership skills should have excellent communication skills, smart thinking and time management skills.  Managers are also expected to train their own team members and promote a team work environment in their work places.   Managers must have coaching skills to support their staff.    He should have Strategies to maintain team moral techniques and tips which help to motivate and support people. Other leadership qualities are   negotiation, conflict resolution, change management performance, appraisal and performance management. Present day Managers must be creative in building their own personal bank of resources to improve their effectiveness.  In a climate of economic downturn and dramatically reduced budget, Managers must add innovation, the ever growing list of requirement of their professionalism. We are all in the business of marketing ourselves as managers.  There is no better way to impress a future employer that to be able to demonstrate that I have taken on task of my own professional and personal development.

Effective ways to learn in future

I am always interested in finding new ways to learn better and faster. As a professional,   amount of time for me to spend learning new things is limited. It is important to get the most educational values out of my limited times.  I need to remember the information I learned and recall it at a later time and utilize it effectively. One sure way to become   effective learner is to keep leaning. It is important to keep practicing what I have learned in order to maintain knowledge I have gained.   I have learned to keep practicing and rehearsing what I have already learned. I want to find a way to rehearse the information both verbally and visually. Educators have noted that one of the ways to learn something is to teach what you know to someone else. Another way to become effective learner is to use relational learning which involves reading and writing them down.

Defining problem

This is an area where people struggle.  They react to outer circumstances instead of trying to understand more about the nature of the problem. We have to ask ourselves and others the questions in order to analyze the problem.

  • What is the cause of the problem?
  • Where is it happening?
  • How is it happening?
  • With whom is it happening?
  • Who is causing the problem?
  • When we are stressed we used to blame others, to be effective leader,   we need to address issues more than blaming others.
  • Why is it happening?

Defining complex problems

In the event the problem still seems overwhelming, it is necessary to break it down by repeating steps until we have description of several related problems.

Verifying our understanding of the problems:

It helps a great deal to verify the problem analyzing with a peer or someone else.

Prioritize the problems

If we discover that we are looking at several related problems, then prioritize which ones I should address first.

The difference between important and urgent problems, often, what we consider to be important problems is really just urgent problems. Important problems deserve more attention.

Understanding my role in the problem

My role in the problem can greatly influence how I can perceive the role of others.  In the event I am stressed it will probably look like r I may resort too quickly to blaming or reprimanding others.  If I feel guilty about my role in the problem I may ignore the accountabilities of others.

Potential causes for the problem

It is amazing that how much I do not know about what I do not know. As such, in this phase it is critical to get input from other people who notice the problem and who are affected by it. It is useful to collect input form others one at a time otherwise people tend to be inhibited about offering their impressions of the real cause of the problem.  It is useful to write down my opinions and others opinions of the problem. It is often useful to seek advice from a peer or my supervisor in order to verify the impression of the problem.

Brainstorm

I have found it is useful to keep others involved unless I am facing a personal or employee performance problem. Brainstorm may be the solutions to the problem.  To put into its context, brainstorming is collecting as many ideas as possible  and then screening them to find the best idea. It is critical when collecting ideas not to pass any judgment on the ideas and just write them down as I hear them.

Selecting an approach to resolve problems

When selecting the best approach I have to consider which approach is the most likely to solve the problem, which approach is most realistic to accomplish for now, do  I have  the resources,  are they affordable, do I have the enough time to implement and   what is the extent of risk associated  etc. etc.

Action Plan to bridge the   gap

Following are the questions I should ask myself.

What will be the scenario   after the problem is solved?

What steps should be taken to implement the alternative solutions for the problem?

What systems, procedures, process should be changed in my organization?

How I know if the steps are being followed or not? ( These are my indicators of the success of the plan)

      What resources I require?

How much time I need to implement the solution. ? ( Including  the commencement and intervals )

If I answer the above questions then I can create my action plan accordingly. Afterward I can communicate the plan to those who are involved in implementing it and to my immediate supervisor. An important aspect of this procedure in problem solving process is continuous observation and feedback.

Monitoring Implementation of the plan

Am I seeing what I would expect from the indicators? Can plan be implemented as per the schedule? In the event the plan is not being followed as expected I have to consider is this plan realistic?  Are there sufficient resources to accomplish the plan on schedule?  Should priority must be given on various aspects of the plan?  Should the plant be changed?

Verifying the problem has been resolved or not

One of the ideal ways to ascertain if a problem has been solved or not is to resume normal operations in the organization.  Still I should consider what changes should be made to avoid this type of problems in the future. I have to consider policies.   Procedures and training etc.

Finally I consider what I learned from this problem solving,  consider new knowledge, understanding and skills.

Stress management action Plan

Stress can harm my relationships. Symptoms of stress are as follows.

  • Feel tired all the time
  • Eat more or less than normal
  • Drink alcohol,  smoke and  use drugs
  • Feel aches and pains
  • Less sleep
  • Feel nervous or angry

My techniques to prevent stress

  • Regular exercises
  • Learning  how to relax
  • Get enough sleep in the night
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Listen to music
  • Watch movies at leisure time
  • Breath deeply
  • Simplify life
  • Set goals which  I can achieve

Time management action Plan

Time management is planning and then protecting the planned time.  People who say they have no time simply because they have no plan. In the event I plan what to do and when,   then I will have enough time.  When people   who demand particularly other sections managers, customer etc., time management requires tactfully managing the expectations of others.  Time management is about conditioning my environment rather than allowing my environment to condition me.

Prioritize competency requirement

In prioritizing competency requirement   need to produce a set of competencies which provides a resources which can be customized to any organization

  • Assessing work place competence
  • Modern management  tactics and practices
  • Best practice concepts in developing and managing organization.
  • Correct leadership in the workplace
  • Demonstrate high standards of performance
  • Contribute to the organizations reputation
  • Promoting team environment

Set Key Milestones

Next step is to schedule the workflow using the milestones. A milestone is a key point in the progress of a plan.

Target period

Short term  : 01 year

Medium term : 03 years

Long term : 10 years

CONCLUSION

In conclusion I quote from Kalidasa a renowned Classical Sanskrit writer, widely regarded as the greatest poet and dramatist in the Sanskrit language and it includes in nutshell my vision and mission in life.

“For Yesterday is but a Dream,
and To-morrow is only a Vision;
But To-day well lived makes
Every Yesterday a Dream of Happiness,
And every Tomorrow a Vision of Hope.
Look well therefore to this Day!
Such is the Salutation of the Dawn!”
